A 2010 Licia Albanese-Puccini Foundation Grant Winner, Ms. Mitchell just sang as the alto soloist in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with The Alabama Symphony and recently performed the role of Tituba in Sarasota Opera’s Spring 2011 production of Robert Ward’s The Crucible.


Ms. Mitchell made her Avery Fisher Hall debut with the New York Philharmonic in a chamber ensemble performance of Wongol by Farah Talisman in June of 2010. She also worked for the second time with composer Gilda Lyons for performances of Billionaire, a song from the new song cycle Songs from Hood to Riches, in collaboration with American Opera Projects, in the Make Music New York Festival. Earlier in 2010, Ms. Mitchell sang the role of Ms. Diana Trapes in Morningside Opera’s production of Gay’s The Beggar’s Opera, the Benjamin Britten transcription.


Ms. Mitchell is a native of Brooklyn, New York and in 2009 sang the world premiere of Songs from the F Train again composed by Gilda Lyons for American Opera Projects, a company with which she debuted in 2008 in the roles of Maybelle and Peggy in the world premiere of Lee Hoiby’s opera, This is the Rill Speaking. Ms. Mitchell has also performed with Opera on Tap and is a frequent concert soloist with The Walt Whitman Project in Brooklyn, New York.


In 2008 Ms. Mitchell was a Vocal Fellow at The Tanglewood Music Center, where she had the opportunity to sing for Maestro James Levine and coach with soprano Dawn Upshaw, while performing as one of the Six Ladies and covering the role of Leocadja Begbick in Kurt Weill’s The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny.


Ms. Mitchell was hired in 2007 by the New York City Opera to cover the role of Field Singer in the New York City premiere of Margaret Garner, a Richard Danielpour and Toni Morrison collaborative.


In addition to contemporary compositions, Ms. Mitchell’s concert work as alto soloist includes Verdi’s Requiem, Brahms’ Alto Rhapsody, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony and Choral Fantasy, Händel’s Messiah and Rossini’s Stabat Mater. Ms. Mitchell also has experience in film, television and radio,
